Communal Violence in Telangana Linked to Hindutva Forces, Says Human Rights Forum

Hyderabad, The Human Rights Forum (HRF) has accused Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other Hindutva groups of instigating communal violence in Telangana, as per a detailed fact-finding report. The incident, which occurred in Pittalabasthi, Chengicherla hamlet, escalated from a dispute over loud music played during prayer times at a mosque.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the HRF report outlines how the conflict began with RSS workers playing Hindutva-Pop or H-Pop songs on loudspeakers, leading to objections from the Muslim community. The altercation intensified following repeated provocations, resulting in a violent clash that injured individuals from both communities.

The report criticizes political leaders, including G. Kishan Reddy, head of the state BJP and an Indian minister, for their part in stoking the tensions by portraying Hindus as victims of injustice. This narrative was further amplified following incidents of violence and confrontation with law enforcement, as detailed in the report, which included attempts by BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar and members of Bajrang Dal and other Hindutva organizations to forcefully enter the conflicted area.

Preventative measures like barring politicians from visiting the area helped in controlling the situation, yet the report highlights the ongoing tension, with heavy police presence and restricted activities in the affected locality.

The Human Rights Forum’s findings suggest a history of communal tensions in the area, with previous clashes during religious celebrations, and point to a need for serious intervention to prevent future violence.
