Bahraich: Communal tensions have surged in Uttar Pradesh following the death of a 22-year-old man during a Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich, leading to widespread unrest and violent incidents.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in the aftermath, crowds became disorderly, setting fire to shops and roaming the streets, which resulted in the detention of approximately 30 individuals by police. The initial clash occurred in the Mahrajganj area of Mansoor village as the procession moved through on Sunday, where the confrontation escalated to stone-pelting and gunfire, injuring six people.
The incident sparked protests across several areas, with community members voicing strong opposition to the police and local government officials’ handling of the situation. In response, Home Secretary Sanjeev Gupta and ADGP (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash visited the site to evaluate the crisis and coordinate a response. Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla has stated efforts are underway to restore order and address the presence of anti-social elements.
