ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research held its eleventh meeting to address delays in consultative meetings for “The Pakistan Animal Science Council Bill, 2024.” Under the leadership of Syed Tariq Hussain, MNA, the gathering focused on the Ministry of National Food Security and Research’s failure to engage all relevant stakeholders as previously instructed.
According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and confirmation of the minutes from the previous meeting. The Committee expressed dissatisfaction over the Ministry’s lack of consultation with the Ministry of Law and Justice and emphasized the need for compliance by the next meeting.
The Committee requested an update on the involvement of the Law and Justice Ministry in determining the Bill’s place in the Federal Legislative List under Article 144 of the Constitution. Moreover, the Committee sought clarification on whether a Private Member Bill necessitates approval from the Federal Cabinet.
The Additional Secretary-I of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research has been tasked with investigating these issues and providing a report within 15 days. The Committee’s directives underscore the importance of legislative adherence and inter-ministerial collaboration for the Bill’s advancement.
