Committee Meets to Facilitate Reconstitution of Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority Board


Islamabad, The first meeting of the committee tasked with assessing and facilitating the reconstitution of the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KoFHA) was held today. The meeting was chaired by the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Secretary Maritime Affairs Zafar Ali Shah in attendance as committee members.



According to Press Information Department, the committee has been formed to ensure the reconstitution of KoFHA’s BoD in accordance with the KoFHA Ordinance and the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Act, 2023. A key mandate of the committee is to assess the nomination of five members to the BoD, who are to be appointed by the Federal Government. During the meeting, the committee meticulously reviewed the criteria and guidelines for the selection process. Discussions focused on ensuring that the nominated members would bring a diverse range of skills, experience, and expertise to the board, aligning with the objectives outlined in the KoFHA Ordinance and the SOE Act, 2023.



Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh emphasized the importance of transparency and meritocracy in the nomination process. “Our goal is to reconstitute a Board of Directors that upholds the highest standards of governance and is equipped to drive KoFHA towards greater efficiency and success,” stated Minister Sheikh. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal highlighted the strategic importance of KoFHA in the national economy and the need for a dynamic and forward-thinking leadership team. Minister Kamal said that KoFHA plays a crucial role in our fisheries and maritime sectors and that the reconstitution of its board is a step towards enhancing its operational capabilities and service delivery.



Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated the committee’s commitment to adhering to the legal framework provided by the KoFHA Ordinance and SOE Act, 2023. Minister Hussain added, “We are committed to ensuring that the process is conducted with integrity and in full compliance with the relevant laws and regulations, and dedicated to realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of our nation.”



The committee will continue to meet regularly to evaluate potential candidates and finalize the nominations. The aim is to complete the reconstitution process efficiently and effectively, ensuring that KoFHA’s Board of Directors is fully equipped to fulfill its strategic objectives and contribute to the sustainable development of Pakistan’s fisheries and maritime sectors.
