Islamabad: The Minister for Commerce convened a high-level meeting to assess Pakistan’s trade performance during the initial months of fiscal year 2025-26. The meeting revealed stable export figures at USD 5.11 billion, marking resilience amid global challenges, with textiles leading the way with a 10% growth.
Pakistan’s exports to Africa and South Asia showed a promising increase of 9% and 7% respectively, while maintaining stability in North America and the EU. This trend highlights the Ministry’s initiatives to penetrate new markets and strengthen existing ones.
The meeting highlighted that increased imports were driven by energy, raw materials, and food needs, reflecting a surge in domestic economic activity. The Minister stressed the opportunity for import substitution and local manufacturing investment through the “Make in Pakistan” initiative.
Key directives from the Minister included diversifying export products and markets, developing strategies for import substitution, enhancing export competitiveness, and promoting value addition in textiles, agriculture, and manufacturing.
The Minister praised the exporters for their resilience and reiterated the government’s commitment to support the business community, secure new market access, and ensure sustainable trade growth. The Ministry of Commerce reaffirmed its dedication to building a resilient, diversified, and competitive trade sector to align with Pakistan’s economic growth and employment objectives.
