Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and World Bank Collaborate on Export Competitiveness Agenda.

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and a team from the World Bank convened to discuss Pakistan’s export reform agenda, with a focus on strategies aimed at enhancing export competitiveness and streamlining enabling policies. The conversation also delved into how the World Bank can support these initiatives under the broader country program. Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the Whole-of-Government approach for export enhancement, which seeks to promote a unified policy framework to improve competitiveness and the Ease of Doing Business for exporters. This strategy underscores export-led growth by providing essential enabling factors such as financing, liquidity support, reduced input costs, and regulatory facilitation to empower Pakistan’s export sector.

According to Press Information Department, the World Bank reiterated its support for Pakistan’s Trade and Investment Officers stationed in Missions abroad and expressed its commitment to collaborating on knowledge-sharing initiatives to reinforce Pakistan’s global trade connections. Minister Jam Kamal Khan also highlighted the recent establishment of 17 Sectoral Councils by the Ministry of Commerce, aimed at enhancing private sector involvement in policy development—a move that was well-received by the World Bank team for its potential to enrich the policymaking process. Both parties agreed to establish a joint working group on trade, which will meet periodically to progress the goal of realizing Pakistan’s export potential of $60 billion.
