Commerce Minister Chairs Meeting to Bolster Pakistan’s Trade Strategy


Islamabad: In a strategic move to enhance Pakistan’s trade potential, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan presided over a meeting aimed at reassessing the nation’s current international trade relations and identifying new export markets. The session was marked by discussions on maximizing the utilization of Pakistan’s natural resources to boost export volumes, particularly in sectors like mining, minerals, agro-products, gems, and fisheries.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting convened key figures including Federal Secretary for Commerce Jawad Paul and Joint Secretaries from various wings of the ministry. They provided updates on Pakistan’s trade activities, focusing on enhancing market access and promoting trade with both regional and global partners. The dialogue underscored the necessity of specializing in sectors where Pakistan holds competitive advantages.



The discussions highlighted the importance of expanding into new markets through the establishment of additional trade missions in strategically important regions. Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the need for robust strategies to improve export performance, especially in lucrative markets such as the EU, UK, and the United States, while also addressing the trade volume challenges with China. Moreover, he pointed out the potential for significant growth in exports to Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, contingent on overcoming political and connectivity hurdles.



The session concluded with a commitment to strengthen trade infrastructure and devise comprehensive strategies to tap into promising markets effectively, aiming to sustain and expand Pakistan’s trade surplus in key global markets.
