Karachi, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir emphasized that peace in South Asia hinges on the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, aligning with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. This statement was made during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, General Munir criticized unilateral actions by India in changing the status of Jammu and Kashmir, describing them as violations of UN Security Council Resolutions. He stressed that these efforts undermine the peace process in the region.
During the meeting, General Munir also expressed Pakistan’s stance on the Palestine issue, urging the Secretary-General to lead international efforts to halt hostilities in Gaza and address the emerging humanitarian crisis. He highlighted the need for a Two-State Solution as a sustainable approach to the Palestinian issue.
General Munir expressed grave concerns about the suffering of civilians in conflict zones, particularly those in Gaza who are facing brutal treatment and insufficient humanitarian aid. His remarks underscored the urgent need for international intervention to alleviate their plight.
The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, acknowledged these concerns and expressed gratitude for General Munir’s visit to the UN Headquarters. The Army Chief reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the United Nations and its efforts in maintaining global peace and security.
