Coalition partners brush aside Imran’s ultimatum for snap polls

Islamabad, October 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The coalition parties of the government have categorically rejected the demand of PTI Chairman and former premier Imran Khan for holding early elections in the country, saying that no group will be allowed to dictate the government.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, the coalition parties said that elections will be held on time in consultation with the ruling alliance. The statement said that no group in the country will be allowed to impose its decision through use of force and take law into its hands.

The statement strongly condemned the baseless allegations levelled against former President Asif Ali Zardari, and PML-N Leader and former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The statement further said that the Prime Minister will decide about the appointment of the Army Chief in accordance with the law without any pressure through foreign-funded, intimidation, threats and dictation.

The statement said that the aim of targeting the army chief, leadership of sensitive institutions, officers, chief election commissioner and others is ‘blackmailing’ which is definitely not a political act but a part of a conspiracy which will not be allowed to succeed. It is clear in the constitution and law that appointment to other positions including Army Chief is the constitutional authority of the Prime Minister.

It said that a person, deprived of power, is targeting national institutions under a deliberate agenda. Actions like dirty campaign against the martyrs of Pakistan Army, statements and encouragement of rebellion in Pakistan Army are tantamount to anti-nationalism, which will be dealt in accordance with the law of the land.

The statement said constitution of Pakistan, democracy and system will not be allowed to be derailed on the basis of bullying and intimidation. The statement also clarified that the national economy and the rehabilitation of the flood victims are the first national priorities under current situation, and no compromise will be made in this regard.

The government, institutions and people are on the same page that political instability will not be allowed to derail the economy and access to resources for flood victims will not be affected in any way.

The statement said that after the by-elections held on October 16, 2022, the number of seats in the National Assembly of the coalition government has increased from 174 to 176, while the PTI has lost eight seats in the National Assembly due to the arrogance of sedition.
