Lahore: In response to heavy rainfall, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued directives for district administrations and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) officials to ensure prompt drainage of rainwater from streets and markets in Lahore and other cities across the region. She emphasized the need for continuous efforts to clear waterlogged roads and low-lying areas to maintain normalcy.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Sharif has called for the traffic police to quickly clear roads to prevent traffic jams and to keep traffic flowing smoothly throughout the cities. She highlighted the importance of traffic wardens actively performing their duties to facilitate citizens during these weather challenges.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for proactive measures by both the administration and residents, utilizing all available resources for effective rainwater management. She insisted on the timely evacuation of people from vulnerable areas and the importance of advance warnings for residents in low-lying regions.
Furthermore, Sharif underscored the commitment of field officers to be present in affected areas, prioritizing the safety of life and property. She reiterated the necessity of adhering to the orders and standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to ensure that rainwater does not stagnate on roads.
