CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif Initiates New Health Monitoring Department and Digital Systems

Lahore: In a groundbreaking move, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the establishment of a separate Monitoring, Reporting and Elevation Department within the Health Department. This initiative was announced during a special meeting of the Health and Population Department, marking a first in the history of Punjab’s healthcare system. The Chief Minister also instructed the introduction of a comprehensive digital referral system across primary and secondary healthcare centers in the province.

In addition to these directives, Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the procurement of new and modern vehicles for the ‘Clinic on Wheels’ program. The Secretary of Health and Population Department reported that the number of these mobile clinics is expected to surpass 544 by the end of May. The outsourcing of health centers in Punjab is reportedly progressing well, with 9,000 applications received for 982 Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics.

The meeting also highlighted that 315 Maryam Nawaz Hospitals are planned to operate under a joint venture model, with 93 applications already submitted for this initiative. The Chief Minister was informed that the first batch of 500 Community Health Inspectors will commence their duties in Punjab from April 28.

Discussions during the session also covered the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Service Bill 2025 and addressed issues concerning drug manufacturers, exporters, and drug sales licenses.
