Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced an increase in the Honhar Scholarship Program to Rs 100 billion during a ceremony at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. The program will see an additional 20,000 scholarships awarded next year, alongside interest-free loans up to Rs 3 crore for new businesses and startups aimed at the youth. In an effort to advance sustainable transportation, the initiative also includes the provision of one lakh e-bikes to students and the establishment of e-bike charging stations in universities and colleges across Punjab.

According to Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the youth, stating that the future of Pakistan rests on their development. The program aims to equip young individuals with skills in artificial intelligence, robotics, and other modern IT fields. Additionally, market-based training and internships have been introduced in sectors such as agriculture and environment to enhance students’ practical experience.

The government is also focusing on reducing financial burdens on families by offering loans to students and introducing transport solutions, particularly for female students. Sharif highlighted that girls currently receive 60 percent of the scholarships. She reassured students that the Honhar Scholarships are awarded purely on merit and that the government bears the responsibility of supporting students financially.

Sharif announced the upcoming introduction of a laptop scheme and international scholarships based on student preferences. She called on the youth to focus on their studies, assuring them that the government would cover their educational expenses. The initiative aims to ensure equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their financial background, and to instill pride in receiving scholarships as a rightful benefit.

Expressing concern over recent incidents involving youth and public property, Sharif urged young people to maintain their moral values and contribute positively to the country’s progress. She underscored the importance of upholding societal values and expressed confidence in the potential of Pakistan’s students to propel the nation forward.
