Karachi, Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar emphasized the crucial role of the teaching workforce in driving sustainable development in Pakistan. He made these remarks during his speech at the 2023 convention of the Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the convocation, which celebrated the graduation of the first-ever batch from Hussainabad Teachers Training College under the leadership of Durbeen, was attended by notable figures including Minister of Education Dr. Rana Hussain, VC Karachi University Khalid Iraqi, and others. The Chief Minister highlighted Durbeen’s takeover of the college in 2019 through a public-private partnership, which has now yielded its first batch of graduates.
Justice Baqar praised the graduates for not only excelling academically but also for securing positions comparable to entry-level professionals in banking and medicine. He underscored their significant contribution to the educational sector, teaching at prestigious institutions like Zindagi Trust Government Schools and SMB Fatima Jinnah.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of the teaching profession, which he described as the backbone of any nation and fundamental to its sustainable development. He expressed confidence in the graduates’ potential to shape the future and uplift society. Furthermore, he highlighted the role of government schools in providing equal opportunities to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds, thereby enabling social mobility.
Justice Baqar also acknowledged the graduates’ role as torchbearers of Durbeen’s commitment to quality education and their potential to redefine and elevate the status of teaching in Pakistan. He proudly noted that all graduates, having acquired their teaching licenses, are qualified to become government teachers.
The interim Chief Minister concluded by emphasizing the need for graduates to embrace nation-building ideals, contribute to a larger cause, and take responsibility for social change, despite societal challenges like brain drain and social disparities. He commended the graduates for their academic achievements and dedication to the transformative power of education.
