KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and prominent industrialists have agreed to collaborate on developing Karachi through public-private partnerships. The decision emerged from a meeting focused on financial resource mobilisation, with the aim to enhance the infrastructure and liveability of the city.
The meeting was attended by notable industrialists including MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, and Zubair Motiwala. Sindh government officials, such as Principal Secretary Agha Wasif and Special Assistant to the CM on Industries Qasim Naveed, were also present.
CM Shah welcomed the industrial leaders and urged their support for the province’s development initiatives. He expressed the government’s eagerness to work alongside industrialists in executing these projects.
Aqeel Karim Dhedhi responded positively, requesting detailed briefings on specific projects. CM Shah directed his Special Assistant to engage with the industrialists for further discussions.
The industrialists showed interest in investing in the Shahrah-e-Bhutto and Wastewater Treatment projects. Shahrah-e-Bhutto was highlighted as a vital thoroughfare for Karachi, with plans for plantation along its corridor.
Several new projects were also proposed, with commitments from the industrialists to collaborate with the government. It was decided to list these projects on the Stock Exchange to secure funding.
The discussion also included plans for a direct exit route for heavy traffic from the port to alleviate congestion. Other traffic management projects were also considered.
CM Shah stressed the significance of industrialists’ involvement in improving Karachi’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal.
