It has been my utmost priority to focus on this area and this training is a practical step towards achieving this goal of reducing the demand.

Teachers play a great role in shaping student’s lives and i appreciate that so many competent teachers have enrolled in the programme. The Minister said. “It’s great to see that majority of women have participated in the activity, they have incredibly strong role in shaping the future of our society” Ijaz shah said.

Awareness campaign against drug abuse and addiction amongst students will help us save thousands from falling prey to this menace. He added. He also said that it is our national responsibility to collectively counter this issue and reinforced the fact that each one of us should play our role. The training termed “unplugged” is an evidence based program developed by the University of Ghent in collaboration with the EU drug addiction prevention trial which has been successfully delivered across the globe.

Pakistan sponsored and has actively championed UN resolution 61/2 “strengthening efforts to prevent drugs use in educational settings” coordinated by the ministry of narcotics control and other partners. The launch of unplugged, which has been organised and funded by the EU under its action against drugs and organised crime project in collaboration with the UK’S national crime agency, Spanish agency FIIAPP and the Karim khan Afridi welfare foundation, uses experts from a number of countries who will deliver a comprehensive programme to over 300 teachers by the end of this year.

This training venture will provide Pakistan with a sustainable programme through the number of trainers who will be able to cascade the system to teachers across the country. Ceremony concluded with the exchange of souvenirs. Federal Secretary for Narcotics Control Akbar Durrani (TI)/PAS and other senior officials of Ministry of Narcotics Control also attended the ceremony.
