Islamabad, July 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):On the second day of Eid ul Adha on Monday, a cleanliness operation to dispose of offals is effectively continuing in the Federal Capital as well as across the Punjab Province. The waste management companies including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and the city administrations have been implementing orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz in this regard.
Radio Pakistan’s correspondents report that contrary to the last year, the cities are giving a clean look during the Eid-ul-Adha days this year. Radio Pakistan’s correspondent Javed Iqbal reports from the Federal Capital that the Capital Development Authority collected and disposed of over sixty two thousand offals weighing over fifty thousand tons during first two days of the Eid. After cleaning the blood and impurities, lime powder was thrown on the dirty places.
The Authority distributed biodegradable bags among citizens so that the waste material could be safely collected and disposed of. Around 2000 sanitation staff took part in the clean-up operation. For the facilitation of citizens, a helpline was set up with following numbers 1334, 051-9213908 and 051- 9211555.
Rawalpindi Waste Management Company has collected and disposed of 5718.64 tons of waste so far. For this purpose, the RWMC deployed 435 vehicles and 3663 sanitation staff members. It established sixty collection points for offal collection including 17 fixed points while 43 mobile transfer station points. During the operation, it also cleared small road side drains to keep the transportation smooth.
According to Radio Pakistan’s Lahore correspondent Sajjad Pervez despite the rains and floods, thousands of officials of the Waste Management Authority, provincial and district administrations worked day and night on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz Sharif to dispose of millions of tons of garbage.
With effective monitoring of Operation Clean Up in Lahore, over seventeen thousand and five hundred tons of waste was picked up and destroyed in a single day in Lahore. The Gujranwala Waste Management Company picked up 2878 tons of offals from the city on the first day of the Eid. The clean-up operation of the city involved 2305 workers, drivers and helping staff.
In Faisalabad, over six thousand and five hundred tons of waste and garbage were lifted with the help of seventy five big dumpers. Additionally fifteen stations have been set up where waste is being disposed of on daily basis. On the first day of Eid, a special helpline was set up. More than two thousand and three hundred citizen’s complaints were received by the citizens out of them two thousand and two hundred and eighty six were resolved immediately.
In Multan, a new record was set by destroying over five thousand and seven hundred tons of waste so far as cleaning operations are in progress. A field force of two thousand, seven hundred and forty one personnel and four hundred and eighty seven vehicles are participating in the Eid cleaning operation.
Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif has commended the officers and all the staff who served in Operation Clean Up and appreciated their spirit. In a tweet, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated the Punjab Chief Minister and Waste Management Companies for efficiently working on Eid-ul-Adha.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in an interview with Radio Pakistan correspondent, the spokesman of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar Hassan Ali said over two thousand and seven hundred sanitary workers are taking part in the cleanliness campaign in Peshawar district. Similarly, about seven hundred vehicles are taking part for timely disposal of the waste of sacrificial animals.
He said an exhaustive campaign was launched ahead of Eid-ul-Azha involving Ulema and local government representatives to create awareness among citizens to fulfill their social responsibility of cleanliness on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. On the second day of Eid Ul Azha today, Metropolitan Corporation Quetta made special arrangements to collect and dispose of the offal and other remaining of animals.
Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo also directed officials to utilize all available resources for the cleanliness of Quetta city. The cleanliness campaign under the auspices of West Management Company Gilgit Baltistan continued on 2nd consecutive day today.
More than two hundred Suzuki vans, Tractors and Dumpers were carrying slaughter waste of Eid-ul-Adha through door to door cleanliness campaigns. The waste Management Company has cancelled the Eid holidays of its workers to keep the cities of Gilgit, Baltistan and Diamer division clean.
