Islamabad: The Civil Services Reform Committee, led by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, convened in Islamabad to discuss a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming Pakistan’s bureaucracy. The meeting, initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, focused on addressing contemporary challenges through restructuring.
The committee approved a proposal to implement a cluster-based system for restructuring, highlighting the need to address the difficulties of recruiting professionals in the public sector. This approach is intended to align the skills of public sector officials with the demands of their roles.
Ahsan Iqbal pointed out the misalignment between the current skill sets of many public sector officials and the evolving demands of their positions. He advocated for adopting best practices from the corporate sector to enhance efficiency within government institutions.
He also called for a reevaluation of the English language requirement in civil service entry exams, noting that numerous talented candidates are disqualified due to failing the English paper.
