Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people towards achieving a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. This statement underscores Pakistan’s longstanding position on the Kashmir issue, amid ongoing tensions in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a weekly press briefing, Baloch highlighted the statement made by Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi at the 55th Session of the Human Rights Council. Qazi emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to advancing human rights in 2024 and called for the High Commissioner’s Office to monitor the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) closely. He advocated for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry to investigate human rights violations there.
Furthermore, Baloch condemned the Indian authorities’ decision to ban the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction) and the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Sumji faction), alongside the extension of the ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir for an additional five years. She pointed out that these actions have resulted in a total of eight Kashmiri political parties being outlawed in IIOJK, with their leaders and members facing persecution.
Baloch criticized these measures as attempts by India to suppress dissent and freedom of expression in IIOJK, flagrantly disregarding international human rights and humanitarian laws. She called on India to lift the restrictions on the banned parties, release all political prisoners and dissenters, and implement the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir promptly.
