Lucknow: A church in Uttar Pradesh was demolished by authorities amid allegations of illegal conversion activities, escalating worries about the treatment of minorities under Prime Minister Modi’s government.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demolition occurred in the Mirzapur area on land claimed by the forest department. Local police asserted that the church was built without proper permissions and had been the subject of several complaints regarding conversion activities. Police Superintendent Abhinandan justified the demolition by stating it was a response to these legal infractions.
The incident has ignited significant backlash from minority and human rights organizations, who view this as part of a broader pattern of persecution against religious minorities by the current administration. These groups are demanding a comprehensive investigation and the implementation of more robust protections for religious freedom in India.
