Islamabad: A high-level Chinese delegation met with Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, to explore advancements in green and efficient mobility solutions aimed at transforming Pakistan’s public transport system. The delegation introduced the Pakistan Green Transport Project, a strategic initiative under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, focusing on zero-emission transportation to enhance environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting included discussions on the development of electric buses and the establishment of unified charging systems within major cities including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. The project seeks to decrease energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improve urban air quality through the adoption of electric vehicles and related infrastructure.
The Pakistan Green Transport Project aims to implement phase one in key cities, with further expansions to other regions planned for its second phase. This initiative is part of broader efforts to comply with the National Electric Vehicle Policy of 2019, which supports the transition towards electric vehicles through incentives for manufacturers and infrastructure development. Romina Khurshid Alam reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing pollution and advancing sustainable transport solutions across the nation.
