Chinese Business Delegation Explores Investment in Special Economic Zone in Gilgit Baltistan


Islamabad: A high-profile Chinese business delegation led by renowned economist Yuan Jianmin Senior expressed keen interest in investing in the construction of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Gilgit Baltistan, highlighting the potential for enhanced economic growth and stronger bilateral ties between Pakistan and China. The meeting, which took place in Islamabad today, was hosted by Amir Muqam, the Minister for SAFRON, Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Amir Muqam discussed the longstanding economic and cultural ties between the regions of Pakistan and China, emphasizing the strategic importance of Gilgit Baltistan in fostering regional connectivity and economic partnership. He highlighted that the area’s historical trade routes and cultural exchanges date back centuries, underlining the potential benefits of further investment.



The Minister articulated that the proposed Special Economic Zone would not only benefit both countries economically but also strengthen their comprehensive partnership, which encompasses trust, economic cooperation, security collaboration, cultural exchange, infrastructure development, and global coordination. The Chinese delegation’s interest in the SEZ project signifies a possible future boost in economic activities and regional development.



The initiative is seen as a step forward in leveraging the geostrategic location of Gilgit Baltistan to enhance the economic corridor between the two nations, potentially leading to increased trade opportunities and cultural exchanges that have been the hallmark of the Pakistan-China relationship.
