China Eyes Donkey Farms in Pakistan to Boost Trade and Exports

Islamabad: In a move set to bolster trade ties between Pakistan and China, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, met with Zaho Fei, Vice President of China’s Donkey Industry Branch, to discuss the establishment of donkey farms in Pakistan. The Chinese delegation highlighted the country’s favorable environment for donkey breeding, marking a potential new avenue for economic collaboration between the two nations.

Minister Hussain welcomed the proposal, underscoring the strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and China. He assured that permission for setting up the donkey farms would be granted through a formal agreement, ensuring that Pakistan’s local donkey population remains unaffected.

The agreement includes plans for the development of farms in the Gwadar Export Processing Zone, complete with slaughterhouses and export facilities. This would facilitate the export of donkey meat to China via Gwadar Port, aiming to enhance Pakistan’s export capabilities.

Minister Hussain noted that this initiative could pave the way for economic opportunities and job creation at the local level, while simultaneously strengthening trade relations with China. The meeting signifies a strategic step forward in diversifying Pakistan’s export portfolio and tapping into new markets.
