China Expresses Strong Opposition to Modi’s Arunachal Pradesh Visit

Beijing, China has expressed strong opposition to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Arunachal Pradesh, a region at the center of a long-standing border dispute between China and India. Chinese authorities contend that the visit exacerbates the already complex boundary issues between the two nations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin highlighted China’s objections to Modi’s activities in what China considers its territory. “Zangnan area is Chinese territory. China never recognized the so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally established by India and firmly opposes it,” Wang stated. He emphasized that the unresolved boundary question is further complicated by India’s unilateral actions in the region.

Wang Wenbin also conveyed China’s strong dissatisfaction and opposition to Modi’s presence in the disputed area, underscoring the Chinese stance that Arunachal Pradesh, constituted from territories known as Monyul, Loyul, and Lower Tsayul, rightfully belongs to China. These areas, he argued, lie between the McMahon Line and China’s traditional boundary with India, a demarcation never accepted by Chinese authorities.

The establishment of Arunachal Pradesh by India in February 1987 remains a point of contention, with China viewing it as an encroachment on its sovereign territory. The visit by Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate infrastructure projects in the contested region has thus been met with firm resistance from Beijing, which insists on its territorial claims over the area.
