China Brushes Off U.S. Tariff Tactics, Calls for Equitable Dialogue

Beijing: China has declared that it will disregard the United States’ tariff measures, emphasizing the need for negotiations based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit. The statement was made by Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments urging Beijing to return to the negotiating table.

The ongoing trade tensions have intensified after China’s decision to increase tariffs on its exports to the U.S., raising the rate to 245% from the previous 145%. This move was in response to what China perceives as aggressive economic policies by the U.S.

President Trump has indicated that the U.S. will continue with its “fair and reciprocal plan,” aimed at correcting trade imbalances and addressing non-reciprocal trade agreements.

The trade conflict has led to significant uncertainty in global markets. Stock exchanges across Asia, Europe, and the United States have experienced sharp declines, as investors worry about the potential for increased inflation and a slowdown in global economic growth.
