China Attributes Galwan Valley Standoff to India’s Unilateral Actions, Asserts Responsibility

Beijing, In a recent statement, the Chinese Defense Ministry has asserted that India is entirely responsible for the Galwan Valley standoff, attributing the incident to India’s violation of bilateral consensus and unilateral provocations. This declaration was made by Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesperson Senior Col. Wu Qian during a regular press conference in Beijing today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Senior Col. Wu Qian responded to a query regarding comments made by India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Jaishankar had previously stated that China violated the bilateral consensus in 2020 by amassing a large military presence along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), triggering the conflict in the Galwan Valley. Jaishankar also emphasized that normal India-China relations could not proceed unless a border solution was reached.

Wu Qian clarified that the Galwan Valley incident occurred solely due to India’s breach of agreement and unilateral actions, placing the responsibility entirely on the Indian side. He highlighted that the Galwan Valley is located on the Chinese side of the western sector along the LAC.

The Spokesperson further detailed that over the past three years, China and India have engaged in communication and coordination through military and diplomatic channels. The two militaries have conducted 20 rounds of Corps Commander Level Meetings and agreed to disengage at four points: the Galwan Valley, Pangong Lake, Hot Springs, and Jianan Daban. These agreements have contributed to the de-escalation of tensions along the border.

Wu Qian criticized the Indian side for linking the boundary issue with the overall bilateral relations, calling this approach unwise and inappropriate. He stressed that this stance goes against the shared interests of both countries. He urged India to work collaboratively with China to enhance strategic mutual trust, handle differences appropriately, and maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.
