Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the significance of information and communication technology (ICT) in empowering women, underlining that acquiring ICT skills is crucial for developing a modern society. In a message delivered on the International Day of Information and Communication Technology for Girls, the Chief Minister outlined her vision for a technology-based province where access to technology is free from gender discrimination.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her commitment to creating a province where women are empowered through ICT skills. She highlighted that this approach could open countless opportunities for women’s development, with a focus on promoting a knowledge-based economy, financial technology (FinTech), and digitization of institutions.
The Chief Minister noted that promoting digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and e-commerce can empower women and allow them to access new income sources through the digital space. She stressed that freelancing offers an excellent opportunity for women to earn a living while working from home, and that ICT education could equip them with skills in demand in the global market.
