Karachi: Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has directed an urgent investigation into the tragic deaths of eight family members in Khairpur District, suspected to be due to poisoned milk. The incident, which took place in Hebat Brohi Taluk Kangri, has prompted a swift response from local authorities.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Fawad Shah briefed him on the events following the family’s dinner on the night of August 17, 2024. By the morning of August 18, the health of several family members had deteriorated, leading to their hospitalization in Khairpur and Sukkur. Sadly, eight members of the Brohi family, including children, succumbed to their conditions.
The Chief Minister has ordered the Commissioner Sukkur to assist the bereaved family with the burials and medical care for three surviving members who are currently in critical condition in the ICU. Meanwhile, samples from the victims have been sent to a chemical laboratory in Sukkur for analysis to determine the exact cause of the poisoning. The ongoing investigation aims to clarify whether the poisoning was due to external sources or other factors, given the family’s self-sufficiency in milk production from their own cattle.
