KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting today, focusing on the advancement of the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ). During the session, he instructed officials to accelerate construction efforts and provide consistent updates on the project’s key components.
Attendees included Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Syed Qassim Naveed Qamar, Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Chairman of Planning and Development Najam Ahmed Shah, Director General of the Public-Private Partnership Unit, and Abdul Azeem Uqaili, CEO of the SEZ Management Company.
Officials reported that construction at the SEZ is approximately 12% complete, with nearly finished work on electrification, a 10 MGD water pipeline, and gas infrastructure.
Chief Minister Shah stressed the strategic role of the Dhabeji SEZ in making Sindh an attractive location for international investors. He highlighted the potential benefits amid global tariff tensions, particularly between the U.S. and China, which have led many Chinese manufacturers to consider relocating to more cost-effective areas.
The Dhabeji SEZ, identified as a CPEC Priority Project, is expected to draw 2 to 3 billion dollars in investment and generate 100,000 direct and indirect jobs while improving the socio-economic conditions in the region.
“Sindh must seize this opportunity to attract foreign industries, especially Chinese enterprises seeking stable, business-friendly environments,” stated the Chief Minister. He urged related departments to expedite infrastructure development and ensure that investor facilitation mechanisms align with international standards.
