Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Responds to School Van Shooting and Crime in Punjab

Lahore: In a decisive response to recent violence and escalating crime rates, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has taken significant actions, including addressing a distressing shooting incident involving a school van in Attock and directing robust measures to curb crime across the province.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, CM Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of two female students in the Attock attack and has ordered an immediate investigation, requesting a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police. Additionally, she has directed that all injured parties receive the highest standard of medical care.

In a broader move to enhance public safety, CM Sharif chaired a high-level meeting focused on police performance and public security. She mandated a decrease in the crime rate in every district and emphasized the eradication of road dacoity. The Chief Minister reviewed Key Performance Indicators for police officers, insisting on intensified efforts to dismantle criminal hotspots and protect vulnerable groups, particularly traders, women, and children.

The meeting, attended by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, IG Police Dr. Usman Anwar, and other officials, underscored a zero-tolerance policy towards crime. Sharif warned that police officers would be held accountable for any lapses in their areas of jurisdiction, stressing the necessity of making every road and street in Punjab safe.
