Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Intensifies Law and Order Efforts in Punjab

Lahore: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken decisive steps to bolster law and order in Punjab, emphasizing the protection of life and property as her primary responsibility. In a high-level meeting, she issued directives for a more proactive and robust policing approach, including an increase in border security measures and the introduction of technological advancements such as body cameras for on-duty officers.

According to Punjab Portal, the meeting was a comprehensive review of the province’s security situation where Chief Minister Sharif reiterated her commitment to safeguarding public life and property. She instructed the police to adopt an indiscriminate approach towards criminals and anti-social elements and emphasized the necessity for the police to act proactively instead of being merely reactive.

The Chief Minister ordered that police patrols be arranged between check posts and directed senior police officers to ensure foolproof security for the upcoming Eid Milad-ul-Nabi celebrations by personally visiting scholars. She also responded to recent attacks on police check posts by demanding a stern response to deter future incidents.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Sharif approved an increase in the number of provincial border posts and mandated immediate special training for personnel stationed at these posts. She stressed the importance of strengthening border security through enhanced equipment and modernizing the Border Military Police.

In addition to security enhancements, Sharif directed the installation of body cameras on police officers to ensure transparency and accountability. She also intensified efforts to eliminate illegal arms in the province.

During the meeting, it was revealed that a strict ban has been imposed on the use of social media and cameras by on-duty police personnel. To support these initiatives, Sharif approved a substantial grant of Rs 01 billion for the police force.

The meeting saw the participation of senior provincial figures including Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Information and Culture Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, MPA Sania Ashiq, and senior security officials such as Brigadier (Rtd) Babar Alauddin, the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, IG Police, and Additional IG.
