Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Directs Reduction in Transport Fares Following Oil Price Decrease

Lahore, In an important meeting with Punjab’s Transport Department, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered stringent measures to ensure that the reduction in petroleum prices translates into lower transport fares across the province. Emphasizing the impact of transport costs on the prices of daily commodities, she highlighted the government’s commitment to providing relief to the public by adjusting transport fares accordingly.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the Chief Minister also called for a five-year strategic plan for comprehensive city transport services in Lahore, including the deployment of purple and blue line trains with the aid of international consultants. The briefing included details on the introduction of 630 eco-friendly buses province-wide, aiming to enhance the environmental sustainability of public transport. This initiative includes 200 diesel-hybrid buses and 100 electric buses in Lahore as part of a pilot project, with additional eco-friendly buses planned for Multan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad.

The meeting also covered the ‘bikes for students’ project under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative, which is currently undergoing further scrutiny following the completion of an e-balloting process.
