Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled the “Roshan Gharana Program,” a significant initiative aimed at providing subsidized solar panels to millions of electricity consumers in Punjab, particularly those using between 50 to 500 units.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Sharif approved the program during a recent meeting with the Energy Department. She announced that the Punjab government would cover 90% of the cost of solar panels, while the remaining 10% would be paid by the consumers. This decision comes in response to the escalating electricity costs and ongoing energy crises in the region.
The Roshan Gharana program is designed to offer these solar panels through easy five-year installments. Chief Minister Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting residents through difficult times and addressing the impacts of past energy policies. She reassured that the program would alleviate some of the current challenges faced by the public after five years.
A cabinet meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to formally endorse the Roshan Gharana program. The first phase will focus on equipping the poorest families with solar systems, ensuring transparency in the distribution process. Additionally, during the winter, when solar energy production may decrease, the government plans to adjust the installment costs and manage the blend of government-supplied electricity and solar power.
