Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir has praised the International Urdu Conference, held in Karachi for the past 16 years, as a significant event that has become a global identity and brand for Pakistan. The Chief Minister emphasized the conference’s role in fostering a platform for writers, intellectuals, and the new generation to engage in cultural and civilizational dialogue.
According to Sindh Chief Minister House, Justice Baqir expressed his views during the 16th International Urdu Conference at the Arts Council. He highlighted the event’s importance in promoting literature, stating that it is an honor to be among intellectuals and writers at the conference. He commended the efforts of Muhammad Ahmad Shah, president of the Arts Council Karachi, and his colleagues for successfully organizing the literary fair. The Chief Minister described the conference as a celebration of knowledge, literature, art, and culture.
Justice Baqir remarked on the transformative power of literature in society, referencing its impact in the Indian subcontinent in the early twentieth century. He noted that literature and culture play a vital role in the improvement and well-being of individuals and nations. The Chief Minister further stated that those who contribute to the promotion of literature, civilization, and culture achieve immortality through their work.
The Chief Minister also expressed satisfaction that the Urdu Conference embraces lovers of all Pakistani languages, including Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, Pashto, and Saraiki. He underscored the importance of the conference for the entire country, not just for Sindh, as it brings together diverse participants to learn, teach, and create new civilizational trends.
In his address, Justice Baqir also emphasized the need for positive societal changes and the role of academics, intellectuals, and creatives in shaping a peaceful and prosperous society. He urged attendees to use literary and cultural activities to project a positive image of Pakistan internationally, countering misconceptions and showcasing the country’s peaceful and loving nature.
The Chief Minister concluded his speech by acknowledging the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s role in promoting literature and art, particularly through the Pakistan Literature Festival, youth festivals, theater festivals, and music festivals. He emphasized the importance of such events in engaging youth in positive activities and shaping the country’s future.
