Chief Justice of Pakistan Initiates Comprehensive Judicial Reforms Plan.

ISLAMABAD: Following his commitment to improve service delivery and access to justice, Hon’ble the Chief Justice of Pakistan has initiated a diagnostic study aimed at designing and executing short and medium-term strategic interventions. A dedicated team of professionals from various fields, working pro bono, has undertaken a functional assessment of the available resources, the effectiveness of existing court processes and systems, and the challenges and opportunities present.

According to Supreme Court of Pakistan, this exercise will culminate in the finalization of a workable reform plan, complete with timelines and a mechanism for impact assessment. The proposed reforms primarily target the reduction of case backlogs, enhanced accessibility and transparency through the simplification of processes, technological integration, and a public-centric approach. These goals aim to leverage available resources and the existing legal framework effectively. Prioritizing cases involving marginalized segments of society and high-impact cases is a key feature of these reform interventions.

Stakeholders’ engagement is a priority throughout the design and implementation process. Initially, the initiative involves professionals from diverse backgrounds, court staff, and other key players in the justice sector, including the Bar, to garner meaningful input. The draft strategic plan will be subjected to public debate and feedback before its finalization, ensuring comprehensive stakeholder involvement.
