Islamabad: The President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP), Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, and General Secretary, Mr. Salman Mansoor, met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, to address challenges related to the efficient dispensation of justice at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Chief Justice agreed to several requests from the SCBAP, including the early scheduling of bail applications shortly after filing. Additionally, he approved the restoration of chamber hearings for interim applications and stay matters, with designated judges hearing these cases throughout the week. The Chief Justice also agreed to increase the number of judges assigned to chamber appeals to expedite the process.
In response to a request from the SCBAP, the Chief Justice decided that applications for video link hearings would be entertained on the day of the case hearing in respective registries. This measure aims to facilitate lawyers, reduce delays, and decrease the need for adjournments, especially for those practicing in remote regions. The Chief Justice also discussed ongoing digitization efforts to streamline operations, including the provision of certified copies and enhanced file tracking and accessibility, particularly for lawyers from distant areas.
The SCBAP leadership expressed appreciation for these measures and reaffirmed their support for initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the justice system. The Chief Justice reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the legal community and ensuring the smooth administration of justice.
