Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan held a formal flag-raising event to commemorate the nation’s 78th Independence Day. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi raised the national flag, joined by fellow justices, court officials, and personnel. The event began with a reading from the Holy Quran and the singing of the national anthem.

Justice Afridi marked the occasion with youngsters from SOS Villages in Peshawar and Islamabad, interacting with them and presenting gifts as a symbol of unity and goodwill.

In his Independence Day address, the Chief Justice extended his congratulations to the legal community and the citizens of Pakistan. He characterized the day as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s founders, who envisioned a free nation built on justice, equality, and the rule of law.

He emphasized that independence carries responsibilities. The constitution, he noted, embodies the people’s aspirations, guaranteeing fundamental rights and ensuring justice. He called upon all institutions, particularly the judiciary, to uphold these ideals with integrity, impartiality, and fortitude.

The Chief Justice urged Pakistanis to strengthen democratic principles, safeguard the rights of the vulnerable, and uphold the rule of law. He stressed the importance of building a society where disputes are resolved fairly, and truth is upheld without fear. He concluded by encouraging citizens to renew their commitment to unity, discipline, and national service, emphasizing that true independence lies in building a just, peaceful, and prosperous Pakistan for future generations.
