Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani Seeks to Strengthen Pakistan-UK Relations

London: Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with the United Kingdom during his meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons, H.E. Lindsay Hoyle.

According to High Commission For Pakistan – United Kingdom announcement issued on 30 July 2024, Gilani, alongside a delegation of Pakistani senators and members of the National Assembly, is in the UK to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral, multilateral, and institutional cooperation across various sectors. During the meeting, Gilani highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two nations, expressing a desire to elevate these relationships to new heights for mutual benefit.

The discussion also covered the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue, initiated during Gilani’s tenure as Prime Minister, which could potentially evolve into an Enhanced Strategic Partnership. Additionally, Gilani addressed significant international concerns, including the situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing conflict in Gaza, urging the UK to support efforts in addressing human rights violations in these regions.
