Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, serving as the Chief Guest at the Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF) Annual Report Launch, emphasized the imperative of unified efforts to prioritize human development, invest in human capital, and tackle climate change challenges. Addressing the gathering, he advocated for the creation of robust partnerships among government entities, United Nations agencies, and civil society organizations to drive an effective humanitarian response.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the event marked a moment to recognize the contributions of International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) in providing relief and support throughout Pakistan. Chairman Gilani praised the PHF and its affiliates for their persistent efforts in assisting the most deserving and affected populations amid difficult periods. He highlighted the strength of a nation in its capacity to empower marginalized and vulnerable groups. Reflecting on his roots in South Punjab, Gilani related to the struggles and aspirations of communities that aim to improve their conditions and contribute to national progress.
The Chairman remarked on the necessity of inclusive development, not only as a moral obligation but as a crucial element for the prosperity of the country. He recalled the political ideology of former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, which prioritized humanitarian values and the upliftment of deprived communities. Gilani commended PHF for its role in fostering a more inclusive and resilient Pakistan. He noted that the achievements documented in the PHF’s 2023 Annual Report reflect the organization’s dedication and humanitarian commitment.
Gilani appreciated that PHF member organizations had extended their reach to over 21.2 million beneficiaries across 152 districts in Pakistan, managing projects with funding exceeding 450 million dollars. He recognized the dual role of humanitarian assistance and development initiatives in not only providing relief to flood-affected areas but also in laying foundations for sustainable development in marginalized regions.
Concluding his address, the Chairman assured his support for humanitarian and development projects and recognized the significant contributions of INGOs in meeting the needs of the populace, particularly during crises. He expressed hope that the outcomes of the event discussions would inspire continued collaborative efforts, fostering hope, resilience, and prosperity across all communities in Pakistan.
