Chairman Senate Stresses on Strengthening Welfare Fund for Senate Employees

Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani presided over a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Senate Secretariat Employees Welfare Fund at Parliament House, focusing on enhancing financial support mechanisms for Senate employees.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting was informed by Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider that the Welfare Fund is primarily sustained through voluntary contributions from Senate members and employees, aimed at offering immediate financial assistance to employees in Grades 1 to 15 for marriage, bereavement, and emergencies. Chairman Gilani emphasized the need to fortify and expand the fund, encouraging renewed participation from Senate members through voluntary contributions. He noted that with salary increments over time, the fund’s financial framework requires reassessment to benefit a larger number of employees.

The committee also received insights from Secretary Haider on the fund’s policy framework and assistance mechanism. Chairman Gilani proposed engaging with insurance companies to explore sustainable welfare models. A sub-committee, including Senators Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Nasir Mehmood Butt, and Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, was formed to develop recommendations for improving the welfare system.

During the meeting, Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti suggested facilitating Hajj opportunities for Senate employees and pledged personal financial contributions to support this initiative and the welfare fund.
