Chairman Senate of Pakistan Meets Azerbaijani Speaker at International Conference


BAKU: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, held a bilateral meeting with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, during the International Parliamentary Conference in Baku, commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution.



Chairman Gilani expressed appreciation for the strong relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, emphasizing a mutual commitment to peace, security, and prosperity. He underscored that these aspirations are shared goals of both nations, united by historical and cultural ties.



Reflecting on their recent meeting in Islamabad, Chairman Gilani highlighted the successful Trilateral Conference with Azerbaijan and Türkiye, marking a significant step in regional cooperation. He noted the historical ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, referencing the Multani Caravanserai in Baku as a symbol of their enduring connection.



Recalling his tenure as Prime Minister, Gilani mentioned discussions with President Ilham Aliyev in Davos (2012) on cooperation in various sectors. He expressed support for Azerbaijan’s peace efforts with Armenia and invited Azerbaijani leaders to the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad.



Chairman Gilani emphasized Pakistan’s active engagement with Azerbaijan through multilateral forums and congratulated Azerbaijan on its re-election within the Non-Aligned Movement’s parliamentary structure.



Speaker Gafarova expressed gratitude for the hospitality during her visit to Pakistan and briefed Gilani on the peace efforts with Armenia. Both leaders committed to enhancing cooperation through regular exchanges and joint initiatives.



The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong partnership and shared vision between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
