Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani bid farewell to the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Khazar Farhadov, at Parliament House, commending his contributions to the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership. The meeting underscored mutual efforts to deepen bilateral ties, focusing on political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Chairman Gilani appreciated Ambassador Farhadov’s role in strengthening the relationship between the two nations. He highlighted the significance of high-level exchanges, including visits by President Ilham Aliyev to Pakistan and reciprocal visits by Pakistan’s Prime Minister to Baku, as pivotal in enhancing bilateral relations.

Chairman Senate emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation, advocating for strengthened exchanges between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. He expressed satisfaction over the progress in trade and investment, particularly Azerbaijan’s zero import duty on Pakistani rice and joint efforts to meet a $2 billion investment target. Enhanced connectivity through direct flights and the ASAN visa program was also welcomed for boosting tourism and business exchanges.

In reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, Chairman Gilani thanked Azerbaijan for its support on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, highlighting the countries’ shared strategic interests and historical ties. Ambassador Farhadov expressed gratitude for the hospitality and reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to a strong partnership with Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by officials, including Senator Kazim Ali Shah, Syed Raza Ali Gillani, and others, reflecting the broad engagement in fostering Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations.
