RAWALPINDI: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, speaking at a seminar held at the Rawalpindi Arts Council, commemorated the enduring legacy of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Organized by Pakistan Peoples Party Rawalpindi President Mian Khurram Rasool, the event marked the 47th death anniversary of Bhutto, with Gilani emphasizing Bhutto’s role as a symbol of democracy and public empowerment.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani, serving as the Chief Guest, highlighted that Bhutto’s contributions, including the establishment of the 1973 Constitution and the Senate, laid the groundwork for Pakistan’s democratic framework. He underscored the significance of the 18th Constitutional Amendment in empowering provinces and acknowledged Bhutto’s efforts in enhancing Pakistan’s global stature and national identity.

Gilani also pointed to Bhutto’s achievements in initiating Pakistan’s nuclear program and founding major industrial projects like the Pakistan Steel Mills, which bolstered national defense and employment. He praised the continued efforts of the Bhutto family, including Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in promoting democracy and social justice.

The seminar also featured addresses from former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, President PPP AJK Chaudhry Yasin, and other leaders, all of whom paid tribute to Bhutto’s political and social contributions.
