CDA Chairman Urges Swift Progress on Islamabad Model Jail Construction

Islamabad: In a concerted push towards the completion of the Islamabad Model Jail, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), has directed the relevant authorities to accelerate the construction efforts. The directive came during a key meeting held on Monday, aimed at ensuring the project meets its scheduled timelines.

According to Capital Development Authority, the meeting chaired by Chairman Randhawa was attended by the Project Director of the Public Works Department (PWD), along with other pertinent officers from both CDA and PWD. The primary focus of the discussions was to streamline the transition of construction responsibilities from PWD to CDA for the Islamabad Model Jail project. This transition is to be carried out in close consultation with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Planning, Development and Initiatives, ensuring that CDA becomes the executing agency without delays.

During the meeting, a detailed briefing was provided concerning the current progress of the jail’s construction. It was reported that about 70-80% of the boundary wall and the administrative block have been completed. However, the construction of the barracks and watchtowers is still ongoing. Chairman Randhawa emphasized the critical need to complete Phase I promptly, which includes finishing the infrastructure essentials such as the boundary wall, barracks, the administrative block, roads, and watchtowers.

Upon successful completion of Phase I, CDA will oversee the commencement of Phase II under its direct supervision. This next phase will further contribute to enhancing Islamabad’s infrastructure, aiming to provide a modern, secure, and well-equipped facility that aligns with contemporary standards of safety and security for prisoners.
