Islamabad: An informative session on the intricacies of ‘Competition Law in Pakistan’ was conducted at the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) Headquarters, aimed at enlightening students from the School of Economics, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).
The session was led by Raja Taimur Hassan, CCP’s Deputy Director of Advocacy, and began with a video introduction to the Commission’s role. This was followed by an in-depth presentation on Competition Law by Ahmed Qadir, Director General at CCP.
Ahmed Qadir explained key elements of Competition Law, including issues related to cartelization, abuse of dominant position, deceptive marketing, and the regulation of mergers and acquisitions. His presentation was enriched with case studies to illustrate the real-world application of these laws.
The importance of Competition Law in promoting fair market practices, which are essential for economic development, was a focal point of the session. Students actively engaged with the topic, asking numerous questions about the law and the Commission’s activities, which were addressed by CCP officials.
Dr. Babar Amin, a lecturer at IIUI’s School of Economics, praised the session as a vital educational tool for students to understand market dynamics and the regulatory frameworks that shape economic activities in Pakistan.
