CCP, British Council Partner to Enhance Competition Law Understanding Among UK Alumni in Karachi

Islamabad: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), in collaboration with the British Council, recently hosted an educational session on Competition Law specifically tailored for UK Alumni residing in Karachi. This session was a part of a series of day-long activities organized by the British Council aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of Competition Law among professionals from various sectors.

According to Competition Commission of Pakistan, the interactive session drew participants from diverse sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, IT consulting, logistics, energy, agriculture, legal services, real estate, banking, academia, non-profit organizations, and the public sector. The initiative was designed to enhance the participants’ knowledge of Pakistan’s Competition Law through direct interactions with senior CCP officials and to provide insights into the practical implications of the law.

The session featured brief videos explaining the core components of Competition Law, a detailed presentation, and discussions on two actual case studies concerning actions taken against cartels and deceptive marketing practices. Mr. Salman Amin, a member of the CCP, emphasized the critical role of Competition Law in attracting investments and maintaining a fair competitive market. He also highlighted CCP’s efforts in improving Pakistan’s economic competitiveness and investment climate.

Further, Mr. Ahmed Qadir, Director General of CCP, elaborated on the core provisions of the Competition Law and reiterated CCP’s commitment to promoting a competitive environment beneficial for both consumers and businesses. The session was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in Q and A discussions, expressing keen interest in the case studies presented, and showing enthusiasm for additional advocacy sessions by the CCP.

The British Council representatives, Mr. Usman Khalid and Ms. Marryam Qadir, noted the positive response to the recent sessions held in Islamabad and Karachi. They confirmed plans to extend this initiative to Lahore, aiming to broaden the impact and reach of this partnership between the CCP and the British Council in educating and engaging UK Alumni across Pakistan.
