Case registered against BBC India for exposing Modi’s role in anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat

New Delhi, April 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): In a vindictive action against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) India for exposing Narendra Modi’s role in the 2002 anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat, India’s dreaded probe agency, Enforcement Directorate has registered a case against the broadcaster. The ED has filed the case against the BBC India under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) charging it for foreign exchange violation.

This is not the first time that the UK-headquartered broadcaster came under an Indian agency investigation. Earlier in February, India’s Income-Tax Department had carried out raids and searches at the premises of the BBC in New Delhi and Mumbai. These actions are part of the Indian government’s vindictive tactics against the BBC since it broadcasted a documentary on the anti-Muslim riot in Gujarat “India: The Modi Question”. In the documentary, the BBC had exposed the role of Indian Prime Minister Narendra in the anti-Muslim pogrom when he was 2002 when he was chief minister of Gujarat.
