Pilibhit: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district have registered a First Information Report against Gursewak Singh, a Sikh man, on allegations of posting photographs with weapons on social media and voicing support for Khalistan.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the case has highlighted concerns among critics about what they perceive as a growing focus on the Sikh community under the guise of addressing separatist activities. Officials stated that the FIR was lodged following a written complaint from chowki in-charge Deepchandra, which has resulted in serious legal charges. Nagar Kotwali Station House Officer Rajeev Kumar Singh has confirmed that an investigation is currently in progress.
This incident follows the December 23 killing of three Sikh youth in the Puranpur area, who were reportedly Khalistan supporters, during a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Police. Gursewak Singh, residing in Sirsa, Haryana, reportedly caused controversy by posting pro-Khalistan content on Facebook after the incident.
However, Sikh organizations and rights groups argue that these actions result in unjust harassment and profiling of the community, exacerbating feelings of distrust and alienation.
