Karachi, Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, has initiated a major beautification project for Shahrah-e-Faisal, one of Karachi’s main thoroughfares, and the historic Choukundi Graveyard. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s visual appeal and improve its urban environment.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the project includes the face uplifting of the Falaknaz buildings located opposite the airport within the next six days. Architects will also develop a comprehensive beautification plan for Shahrah-e-Faisal, extending from the airport to Regent Plaza. The meeting to discuss these plans was attended by key officials and architects, including Minister for Culture Dr. Junaid Shah, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, and others.
The Chief Minister outlined the Shahrah-e-Faisal beautification project’s objectives, focusing on enhancing visual appeal, advertising effectiveness, and creating a cohesive urban environment. The plan involves the standardization of signage, the integration of digital technology for dynamic content, and efficient lighting.
Regarding the Falaknaz buildings, the CM emphasized the need for immediate action and warned of strict measures if the face uplifting is not started within the stipulated timeframe. The beautification of Shahrah-e-Faisal, spanning 18 km, will include tree planting, lawn development, new sculptures, streetlight upgrades, and footpath renovations.
Additionally, Commissioner Karachi Saleem Rajput and DC Malir Saeed Leghari briefed the CM on the development plans for the Choukundi Graveyard. A 30-acre land parcel has been identified for a new graveyard to relieve the old Choukundi site. Plans for the Choukundi Graveyard include the construction of sitting areas, benches, lighting, and a grand entrance using Jungshahi stone. The CM instructed the culture department to procure materials for these developments.
This initiative represents a significant effort by the Sindh government to enhance Karachi’s aesthetic and historical significance, aiming to create a more inviting and vibrant urban landscape for both residents and visitors.
