Islamabad, President Dr. Arif Alvi has called for the global sharing of scientific knowledge and breakthroughs to address various economic, social, and global challenges. His remarks were made during a ceremony marking the 29th anniversary of COMSATS in Islamabad.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Alvi stressed the importance of not restricting access to scientific knowledge, as its wider availability could significantly benefit humanity. He emphasized the need for knowledge sharing among nations without hindrances, highlighting its potential in helping the world navigate through its current challenges.
In his speech, President Alvi also underscored the importance of just and equitable distribution of wealth globally to alleviate human suffering. He pointed out that by adopting modern scientific methodologies, Pakistan has the potential to become a leading nutrition-supplying country.
Addressing the issue of costly power production in Pakistan, President Alvi noted the advancements in solar technology as a viable solution to this challenge. His comments reflect a broader vision of harnessing scientific progress for sustainable development and greater public welfare.

Karachi, The caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, has expressed his deep concern over the escalating crime rates in urban and rural areas of the province, including a variety of serious offenses.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, in a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of Rangers, CM Baqar outlined his distress regarding the increase in crimes such as robbery, murder, rape, kidnapping, drug trafficking, impersonation, mobile snatching, targeted killing, and extortion. He noted that these incidents are frequently reported in newspapers and electronic media.
Justice Baqar highlighted the growing attacks on political candidates in the lead-up to the general elections, with some instances of kidnappings in broad daylight. He emphasized that the most vulnerable groups in society, including women, children, and the elderly, have been disproportionately affected by these crimes. Additionally, he noted that professionals like journalists, lawyers, doctors, and businessmen face an increased threat to their lives and property.
The interim Chief Minister expressed his utmost displeasure with the worsening law and order situation and directed the IG Police and the DG Rangers to take immediate measures. He insisted on actions to stem the rising tide of crime in both cities and rural areas of Sindh, emphasizing the need to protect and safeguard the fundamental rights of citizens as enshrined in the Constitution.
Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic move, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani is set to participate in two major international summits in Kampala, Uganda, from 16th to 22nd January 2024. The visit includes his participation in the 19th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) scheduled for 17th to 20th January, followed by the Third South Summit on 21st and 22nd January.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these summits present an invaluable opportunity for member states to collectively discuss and establish common stances on various critical global and regional issues, encompassing political, socioeconomic, security, and developmental aspects.
Pakistan, as a longstanding and active member of the Non-Aligned Movement, has been instrumental in shaping the group’s agenda. The country remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing NAM’s effectiveness in addressing key global challenges, particularly those concerning peace and security. Additionally, Pakistan’s active participation in the Group of 77 and China highlights its dedication to collaboration within the Global South, focusing on sustainable development, poverty eradication, and climate change.
During the NAM Summit, Foreign Minister Jilani will articulate Pakistan’s stance on persistent and emerging global challenges related to international peace, security, and development. He aims to emphasize the necessity of bolstering multilateralism and rejuvenating NAM’s role in upholding the principles and objectives of the UN Charter.
At the South Summit, Minister Jilani is expected to present Pakistan’s vision for enhanced cooperation and solidarity among the countries of the Global South. This vision is centered on collectively addressing shared challenges and formulating a unified agenda for a prosperous and cohesive Global South.
In addition to his participation in the summits, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to engage in bilateral meetings with heads of delegation from various countries on the sidelines of the events. These meetings are anticipated to further Pakistan’s diplomatic relations and foster collaborative efforts on key international issues.
