Caretaker Prime Minister Emphasizes Future of CPEC at Beijing Roundtable

Islamabad, 17 Oct 2023:Caretaker Prime Minister led an interactive discussion on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) today in Beijing, engaging with a cadre of scholars, academics, and researchers from renowned Chinese academic institutions and think tanks. At the session, the Prime Minister delineated Pakistan’s vision for CPEC, underscoring its ambition for bolstered regional connectivity and sustainable development. He further highlighted CPEC’s pivotal role over the past decade in transforming Pakistan’s socio-economic framework.

The Press Information Department stated that the Prime Minister emphasized CPEC’s role as a cornerstone in the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. Reflecting on CPEC’s ten-year trajectory, he accentuated the need to assess its successes, learn from its journey, and strategize for its subsequent high-quality development phase. Moreover, it was revealed that both nations had concurred on transitioning CPEC into a corridor emphasizing growth, livelihood, innovation, openness, and environmentally sustainable development.

Chinese academic contributors at the roundtable accentuated CPEC’s significance as a robust partnership under the Belt and Road Initiative. They reiterated the sustained eagerness of Chinese companies to contribute to Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones and augment CPEC, thus amplifying regional connectivity and championing sustainable growth. A consensus was reached at the discussion, recognizing that the joint efforts of both nations can elevate CPEC as a central axis for regional trade and connectivity and a bridge fostering people-to-people relations.
